Course Outline

Great production sound begins long before the camera starts rolling. This course introduces the essential pre-production processes that help sound professionals anticipate challenges, coordinate with other departments and arrive on set fully prepared. Participants learn how to organise workflows, interpret production paperwork, break down a script and evaluate locations from a creative, technical, logistical and financial perspective.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will learn how to plan and organise sound department responsibilities across all stages of production. They will be able to analyse scripts, identify sound requirements and potential risks, understand essential production documents and contribute effectively to production meetings. They will also develop the ability to evaluate locations, anticipate acoustic and logistical challenges and present practical solutions to the wider production team.

Learning Methods

The course combines online lectures, industry case studies, collaborative script analysis and realistic production simulations. Participants complete practical assignments involving production paperwork, script breakdowns, location scouting reports and comparative visual boards.
