Course Outline

This course takes you from the creative challenges of a complex film mix to the technical precision of final delivery. You will learn how to balance dialogue, music and effects while protecting both narrative clarity and the emotional impact of the soundtrack. You will also explore the professional standards behind theatrical, broadcast and streaming delivery—including loudness specifications, stems, M&E versions, printmasters, metadata, quality control and international versioning requirements.

Learning Outcomes

You will learn how to identify and resolve masking between dialogue, music and effects using level automation, EQ, dynamics and spatial processing. You will also develop the communication skills needed to navigate creative discussions with directors, composers and producers. By the end of the course, you will be able to prepare, check and export professional delivery packages for different platforms while meeting the required technical, legal and organisational standards.

Learning Methods

The course combines mentor-led demonstrations, guided listening, case studies and hands-on mixing exercises in Pro Tools. You will rebalance a music-heavy scene, analyse creative trade-offs and receive direct feedback on your mixing decisions. You will also prepare stems and final mixes, test loudness compliance, identify errors in a simulated delivery package and complete the documentation required for a professional handover.
