Course Outline

Sound does more than accompany an image—it shapes emotion, rhythm, space and meaning. This course teaches you how to use atmosphere, texture, contrast, silence and spatial design to build a compelling sonic world around a story. From the first creative concept to the final mix, you will develop an original soundscape and learn how technical choices can strengthen narrative intention and emotional impact.

Learning Outcomes

You will learn how to analyse professional soundscapes, recognise the storytelling function of individual sound elements and translate creative ideas into a structured sound design plan. You will develop a layered soundscape in Pro Tools, refine its tone, space and pacing, and respond constructively to feedback. By the end of the course, you will be able to present and explain your creative and technical decisions using professional industry language.

Learning Methods

The course combines mentor demonstrations, guided listening, creative workshops and hands-on sound design labs. You will develop a creative brief and cue sheet, build your soundscape layer by layer and test different approaches to texture, transitions, rhythm and spatial balance. Through individual work, peer critique and direct mentor feedback, you will refine your project into a polished 45–60 second sound design scene and present the final mix to the group.
